Pranayama Yoga

Swami Harinanda once practiced Pranayama Yoga for numerous hours every night. In fact, he would do his breathing exercises instead of sleeping and at one point, he went a few months without eating — relying soley on the prana energy he obtained from the breathing exercises. He would have gone longer without eating but Swami Gitananda told him to start eating again — there was nothing to prove nor was it wise.

While not eating is definitely not recommended nor suggested, it shows the seriousness to which Swami Harinanda dove deep into the Self.

Pranayama Yoga is solid. When you control the breath, you control the mind.

I can remember when the Swami first taught me the Yogic Complete Breath, also known as the Triple Breath. This simple technique can make the aum sound swirl around you.

So just like the Swami did with me, in addition to some articles the Swami wrote regarding Pranayama Yoga, I am sharing with you The Science of Breath by Yogi Ramacharaka. This is one of the books the Swami had me read — it's superb.
