Bhakti Yoga: The Yoga of Devotion

Studying, learning and/or practicing yoga can be like working on a jigsaw puzzle.

There are so many pieces that you don't know where to start — or — you start but get overwhelmed.

The best approach to completing a puzzle is to be methodical — look for the corner and border pieces. Build that frame. Now spread all of the remaining pieces apart. Let your eyes find pieces that connect to a border piece — keep looking! You need a bit of luck, but slowly the puzzle starts to come together and ulimately is completed.

Yoga can be deep or confusing at times. That's OK. Examine the knowledge in front of you but don't fret over it — relax. Make a mental note. Come back to it later and try that piece of the yoga puzzle again. You might need to come back to it again and again — it's all good — don't put pressure on yourself.

To become a true Pravartaka (Initiate), you need discipline and determination. Jumping from one puzzle to another gets you nowhere fast. You will always start but never finish.

When you are stuck, take a deep breath. Let the Caitya Guru (Guru Within) guide you. Scatter all of the pieces of the puzzle around. Let your eyes be drawn to one piece and go with it.

The real secret to completing any puzzle, however, is to find a picture that deeply resonates with you. Then you will complete the puzzle. Same with yoga — find the Yoga or Guru that resonates deeply with you and stick to it.

The finished picture you see on the puzzle box is your Paramartha (Ultimate Goal). Become so focussed that you become consumed with the puzzle itself — Samadhi — such true concentration that you identity with object of concentration. Feel that cosmic vibration — AumPranava — and reside in that state of Mouna (Silence) so you can connect with Brahman (Absolute Reality).

Bhakti Yoga can be like that puzzle piece that you know exactly where it must go in the picture, but you don't have the surrounding pieces yet connected together. So if needed, come back when ready and to complete the puzzle.

In a nutshell, Bhakti Yoga is the yoga of devotion and although everyone should study a little of each yoga, with the help of Yantra Yoga, we can review your birthpath and to determine if Bhakti Yoga is more important to you.

As you read the following information on Bhakti Yoga, take note of how the Bhakti is insanely in love with the divine… every night a Bhakti will go to sleep with a smile on their face as they listen to the divine speak to them… Ommmmm.

— Yogi Karmananda

Jnana Yoga and Bhakti Yoga are considered the two great yogas.

The Jnani sees God within.

The Bhakti sees God everywhere in the world around them.

When the Jnani becomes fully one with God within, they instantly see God everywhere around them.

When the Bhakti becomes fully one with God everywhere around them, they instantly see God within.

It's at this point the two great yogas become one. The Jnani becomes a Bhakti and the Bhatki becomes a Jnani.

Whether you want it or not, in the end we all become a Bhakti and Jnana Yogi at the same time.
