Hatha Yoga Today

Yogi Ramacharaka wrote his book about Hatha Yoga in 1904 and talks about Hatha Yoga from an angle most don't think, know or realize is important. There's more to Hatha Yoga than just stretching.

The true Hatha Yogi stretches as a tool to help focus the mind. When you intently focus on a stretch, you cannot help but stop thinking. But the Hatha Yogi knows one must also prepare the body by living a healthy life. Yogi Ramacharaka book creates awareness about this topic.

But since writing his book, in 1904, much has changed. While the principles of his book ring true to this day, I cannot help but wonder what Yogi Ramacharaka would think about today's world?

These are some of the many things that the Hatha Yogi is aware of. While these and other concerns are constantly bombarding us, the modern Hatha Yogi works to undo the artificial impacts on their life while also remaining unattached to thoughts about their dangers.

The Hatha Yogi

The Hatha Yogi has witnessed, as a by–stander, many tragic events from wars to 9/11 to the COVID lies and more.

We see such events as Maya playing her illusions on us. Yet, we also see everything as an act of God and thus to us, even genetically modified foods are a creation of God just as 100% natural foods are. Yet, if given a choice, the Hatha Yogi chooses, without hesitation, the natural, organic and non–genetically modified foods.

The Hatha Yogi lives a simple life and their entire life revolves around maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We want the natural prana within organic foods rather than the unnatural alterations found in genetically modified foods. This is an example of how the Hatha Yogis lives — not thinks — but lives.

Living the Hatha Yogi way of life isn't for everyone. The Hatha Yogi can be puritanical, stubborn and hard–core. Yet, although the Hatha Yogi lifestyle isn't for everyone, there is something for everyone to learn from the Hatha Yogi lifestyle as well as from Yogi Ramacharaka's book.

Hatha Yogi Examples

Many people took an experimental and unnatural vaccine during COVID. But the Hatha Yogi definitely refused. The Hatha Yogi is also thankful that millions of others also refused the jab. To the Hatha Yogi, a vaccine is nothing more than a dangerous and unnecessary injection. To the Hatha Yogi, the best vaccine is a healthy lifestyle that creates a strong immune system — not a shot in the dark.

A relatively low percentage of people sleep on the floor, but a Hatha Yogi can find the flooring more comfortable than a bed. I personally sleep on the floor and I love it. I have a thin mattress to prevent my kidneys from getting cold, but in terms of a mattress, it's non–existent. While sleeping on the floor isn't for everyone, there's something to learn from the benefits of sleeping on the floor that could be carried over to sleeping on the bed.

The Hatha Yogi seeks natural fibers like cotton, silk, linen and wool. Linen and wool should not be combined because their energies spin in opposite directions thus neutralizing each other. To the Hatha Yogi, linen and wool are energy giving while polyester and other oil based fibers are energy removing.

The Hatha Yogi seeks natural health. In fact, it was the Hatha Yogis of India that created Ayurvedic Medicine. The Chinese took Ayurveda, modified it a little to suit their culture, changed words like prana to chi and so on. In my humble opinion, Traditional Chinese Medicine is a better system than Ayurveda. But in addition to these two approaches, there's homeopathy, flower remedies (Bach Flower and Australian Bush), essential oils, Bowen Therapy, chiropractic, Body Alignment Technique, BodyTalk and more.

Holistic health has been labelled as Alternative Medicine. When labels are given, it's to help hide or camouflage truths from the general public. The reality is that modern medicine is the alternative to traditional healing systems. It's called the medical business for a reason — you are the commodity. Sadly, drugs are created with side–effects because there's no money to be made if someone is healthy. People have been brainwashed to think that the benefit is greater than the risk. This is marketing at its finest and people have fallen for it. As a result, instead of questioning the side–effects, people have welcomed them. But to the Hatha Yogi it's insane to take drug that has known side–effects. The Hatha Yogi is willing to work extra–hard to address the underlying issues rather than treat the symptoms alone.

Valium, made from valerian. Prozac made from St. John's Wort. Aspirin made from white willow bark. Ivermectin is from wormwood. MSG (monosodium glutamate) is originally from a mushroom added to foods to enhance flavour. Penicillin was not created by science but stolen from folk medicine. In days past, people would let bread go moldy and then put the moldy bread on wounds. The people didn't know anything about penicillin, they just knew the moldy bread was good medicine.

Big pharma has isolated and extracted the main medicinal properties within herbs. This allows them to put a patent on their drugs but because their drugs are not a whole herbs, but rather isolated properties, they come with side–effects.

There have not been studies done to prove that herbs work because there is no money in herbs. You can't put a patent on something that grows naturally. But the Hatha Yogi instinctively knows the natural approach is better.

But the natural approach isn't for everyone because you must be willing to work at your health rather than just pop a pill. Nonetheless, the Hatha Yogi will not waiver in their determination to use natural health over drugs and medications. Saying that, the Hatha Yogi realizes that there could be a time when modern medicine is needed and will not hesitate to use it. But the Hatha Yogi works to avoid such a situation.

The Hatha Yogi loves salt. But not table salt which is nothing more than NaCL or sodium chloride. The Hatha Yogi loves real salt. Table salt tastes like salt but it's not salt. Table salt is, to the Hatha Yogi, a poison while real salt is medicine.

The Hatha Yogi wants sea salt, Himalayan salt or, preferably, Celtic salt. To the Hatha Yogi, Celtic salt is the King of salts because of it's high magnesium content. Magnesium is water hungry and thus Celtic salt always looks wet. The magnesium within the Celtic salt helps the body retain and more efficiently use water. That's why the Hatha Yogi loves Celtic salt — water.

But the Hatha Yogi doesn't necessarily cook with Celtic salt, although they can. Instead, throughout the day after drinking some water, the Hatha Yogi has a few grains of Celtic salt. They hold the salt in their mouth so the minerals can go to the teeth, be absorbed through the mucous membrane and go directly into the bloodstream — and the Hatha Yogi holds the Celtic salt in their mouth to help keep their gums healthy, help change their saliva so it's alkaline instead of acidic and the Hatha Yogi swishes the Celtic salt around their mouth to before swallowing — the Hatha Yogi loves that Celtic salt can help to alkalize the body.

While not everyone is going to swirl Celtic salt around their mouth, the Hatha Yogi will — why? Because they are insanely focussed on their health and physical well–being.

Walking — this is not something everyone thinks about but the Hatha Yogi does. The Hatha Yogi is acutely aware that pavement and concrete are not natural and have detrimental impacts on the body. The foot should naturally roll outwards by about 4 degrees. When the foot rolls, it moves the knees into place, followed by the hips, lower back and the Hatha Yogi knows this has an impact on their entire spine. Thus, whenever possible, the Hatha Yogi seeks to walk on soil, sand, gravel or other surfaces to help keep those ankles happy. Realizing that walking on unnatural surfaces is not beneficial, the Hatha Yogi asks a chiropractor to adjust their ankles every session and the Hatha Yogi knows how to adjust their knees.

The Hatha Yogi intently listens to their body. The body talks, the Hatha Yogi listens.

The Hatha Yogi realizes the importance of eating seasonally. This means no watermelon in the winter time and no turnips in the summer.

The Hatha Yogi loves the circadian rhythm and seeks to live inharmony with Mother Nature's natural rhythm. The closer you to live the equator, the easier it is to live inharmony with the circadian rhythm. This allows you to sleep early and wake up without an alarm clock as you wake up naturally with the sun. The Hatha Yogi prefers to wake–up slowly rather than fast and the Hatha Yogi is more than happy to take an afternoon siesta at about 2 PM when the human naturally decreases its temperature to encourage a nap.

The Hatha Yogi is aware that governments, big business and the corrupt are changing the weather on purpose. While the Hatha Yogi disagrees with such behaviour and works to take a stand against such activities, the Hatha Yogi doesn't get attached to any dismay. Instead, the Hatha Yogi continue to live their life in peace.

The Hatha Yogi is aware of electric and magnetic fields (EMF) and so the Hatha Yogi sleeps with their mobile phone away from their head, avoids electric cars, tries to reduce exposure to WIFI, etc. Realizing not all EMF's can be avoided, the Hatha Yogi does what they can and doesn't worry about what they can't.

Being a Hatha Yogi involves more than just stretching. It's a way of life and that's why Yogi Ramacharaka's book is so beneficial. It highlights the lifestyle needed.

Not everyone is meant to be a Hatha Yogi and you shouldn't force yourself to be one or be like one. Instead, you must embrace that which you are — who you are. The Hatha Yogi seeks simplicity and for many, trying to simplify or minimalize their life can be stressful becasue it's unnatural to them. Therefore, don't try to be a Hatha Yogi — just be you while incorporating as little or as much as you can — without stress and without force.

Much has changed since when Yogi Ramacharaka wrote his book. But, if you can listen to your body, your higher–self will guide you.

Expectations

Expectations can only create disappointments.

For the Hatha Yogi, there can be a great blow to the ego, a huge disappointment, frustration, etc if they get sick. But a master Hatha Yogi sees illness merely as a new state of health.

The Hatha Yogi realizes not every problem can be prevented and while many may say look at all the things and you still got sick, this is not the attitude of the Hatha Yogi.

While it's true that one can still get sick even with a healthy lifestyle, the question is how many problems were prevented because you lived a healthy lifestyle?

Furthermore, by living a healthy lifestyle, it puts one in a better position to recover from an illness.

But not all problems can be prevented. Stress, the silent killer, is one problem that affects all. We all must live within concomitant laws of this world and that includes the Hatha Yogi. The Hatha Yogi, like everyone else, can get sick. It's natural. But what's not natural is artificially poisoning yourself with cigarettes, car accidents, etc.

So while it's easy to be disappointed if you get sick while living a healthy lifestyle, realize it's only your expectations that are the problem. Remove your expectations and there can be no disappointments.

Live a healthy lifestyle not to avoid every health problem but rather because it just makes sense.

Focus on the doing, not the results and you will be the perfect Karma Yogi in addition to the perfect Hatha Yogi.

Life is like a safari. Enjoy the experience
It's true — life can feel like a jungle at times. But, your higher–self will guide you through the jungle. You just need to allow yourself to listen.
